🔧 How to Create a Custom ChatGPT

🛠 PREP PHASE: What You Need First

Before you begin:
  • ChatGPT Plus Subscription (required for Custom GPTs)
  • ✅ Files you want to upload (PDF, DOCX, TXT)
  • ✅ Clear idea of the role, audience, and knowledge base

🔁 PART 1: Access the GPT Builder

  • Log into ChatGPT - chat.openai.com
  • Click your name/avatar (top right corner)
  • Select "My GPTs" → Click "Create"

🧠 PART 2: Use the GPT Builder (Create Mode)

  • Choose "Create" Mode
  • This lets you build step-by-step with ChatGPT’s help.
  • Answer the GPT Builder prompts:
    • Name: e.g. “CoachGPT” or “ClientAssistant”
    • Description: e.g. “Helps coaches automate content, leads, and client onboarding”
    • Role Prompt: Provide clear, detailed instructions (see below 👇)

📜 PART 3: Write Powerful GPT Instructions

Include 3 core parts in your instructions:
Role: You are a [what it does]... Context: You help [who it's for] with [goal/problem]... Instructions: Always [tone, output format, what to avoid or emphasize]...
Example Instruction:
You are a Funnel Copy Expert trained in high-converting landing pages. You help digital creators and coaches turn ideas into high-converting copy fast. Always ask about the offer and outcome first. Your tone is confident, clear, and conversion-optimized. Include 3 headline variations and a CTA at the end.

💬 PART 4: Add Conversation Starters

These help users begin chatting.
Examples:
  • "What can you help me write today?"
  • "How do I launch my product?"
  • "Generate a nurture sequence for my new course"

📚 PART 5: Upload Knowledge Base

This makes your GPT smart with your own frameworks.
  1. Click “Knowledge” → “Upload Files”
      • PDF, DOCX, and TXT accepted
      • Use:
        • Swipe files
        • SOPs
        • Client guides
        • Your website copy
        • Email templates
        • Case studies
  1. In your instructions, tell GPT:
“Always reference uploaded knowledge files before answering.”

PART 6: Enable Capabilities

In the Capabilities tab, toggle:
  • Web Browsing (if needed)
  • DALL·E Image Generation (for visuals)
  • Code Interpreter (for spreadsheets, calculations)

🚀 PART 7: Test + Share

  1. Ask it real questions you or your clients would ask
    1. “Can you build a sales email?”
    2. "How do I run ads for a webinar?"
  1. Share it:
    1. Private: Just for you
    2. Anyone with the link: Shareable to your team, clients, or audience

Use clear, benefit-focused names like:
  • CourseGPT – “Build & market your online course”
  • InboxPro – “Turn DMs into booked calls”
